So we are looking at buying a house, so I thought I would look at ways that I can supplement our family income without having to put the children into daycare.
I sew so I thought maybe there is something I can find to make that there is a market for.... One thought was baby slings. I love mine and find it a great way to carry O, esp when hes a bit grumpy and clingy. So I have an idea, now how do I make it work. Any ideas would be welcome, I thought maybe a note in the kindy cubbyholes, or an ad in the school newsletter.
My other thought was maybe making clothes and selling them at the market or online... there seem to be some cool things happening on trademe etc where people are making "original" clothing and selling them.
Any way help would be good on anything that I can do to help us.

Slings and similar sounds good although maybe limited market...
Other ideas - Freelance writing (possible world wide audience), write a book (longer term maybe..!), website / blog with advertising or affiliate links. Lots of advice out there about both.
Good luck!
mm the website thing is a good idea... might have to look around a bit more
Even if you did alterations, made some clothes and then another option is roman blinds (if you can? I wouldn't know where to start) but they come in set sizes in the shops and many windows are outside those sizes. A few people are doing slings but it would be a good start, make a flyer with the info on what you can do put details in the school newsletter and at kindy if you can as well as anywhere else you can think of.
thanks neats.... i am thinking kids stuff/ or womens one offs.... i thought a flyer at kindy etc might be a good start too... and maybe and email to all my facebook contacts lol...
i made myself a nappy bag... http://images.trademe.co.nz/photoserver/91/85418791_full.jpg

do you think i could sell these?
yep def think you could sell your nappy bags, they look cool, and there's heaps of fun fabrics out there - some of the shops have "creative" canvas, which is a light weight canvas, so good for bags, but with really funky pattersn. I have some website addresses for selling hand made items online - if you email me, i'll hunt them out and send them to you, dont have them on me at the moment :)
