birth options

I like reading about birth, about other countries maternity systems, I find it all very interesting, I read this blog today and was interested in the controversial way it was written ....

As women we sometimes lose sight of what our bodies are capable of doing, and we make excuses to use interventions to make it all right.... anyway read the link and see what you think....

my response is here too...

wow, that is so true for so many woman I know, I did birth naturally for all my 4 babies, I had gas for the last one as she was facing the wrong way and needed to turn to come out the right way, posterior I think is the word.

I had awesome labours no longer than 3 hours yet I have been made to feel guilty that my body was able to do it…. that guilt stuck around for a while, now I embrace it that I can birth babies…. people only think of the birth, yeah my births were great, the pph after my first daughter, the retained placenta, the trip to theatre, the iugr baby, the neonates experience, the mastitis at day 7 aren't thought about by others cos I have ” easy” births…… I hate the competition, I hate the lack of trust by so many that they cant do it…..

I found the post you linked to not so helpful, because in effect it blamed me for having difficult births. Yet I started my first birth in a birth centre, with midwife care. I did all the "right" things to get things going - using baths and walking and massage and anything. It was only after 18 hours of contractions and I still wasn't dilating that we shifted into a standard delivery ward.

Yet it's all my fault because I didn't trust my body? That level of blaming I can do without.

fair call, on the blaming thing, its so difficult to know what is the right line on anything to do with birth, I guess thats why I find it so interesting, one level of thought is that a healthy baby and mum is the best we can ask for and how we get there should not matter.... I dont think its you fault that things didnt go as planned at all... I think there is a design flaw in our anatomy actually .....

it does seem to be a flawed plan, woman die giving birth so there has to be something wrong with the anatomy in someway... maybe pelvis' need to be bigger or something, I dont know I just dont think that it works very well

I think everyone is different with my first she was inducded beacause she was iugr, and that birth plan went out the window (i wanted a water birth) but i didnt' have any drugs it was drug free (other than for the stitches but that didnt' affect her) so that was good 5 hours done....cody was a drug free birth and he was a water birth and i was happy with his birth, thankful for a onto it midwife who worked fast with him(he had the cord very tight around his neck when he came out) but i would rather go through labour his was only 2 hours...than a c section but thats just me each to there own, i don't however get how woman can choose to have a c section without even trying, unless there are health issues
